Legal Authority:
The Santa Barbara County Law Library Board of Trustees was created by the California Business & Professions Code Section 6300 et. seq.
Membership:
The Board has seven (7) Trustee Members. The provisions of the Business & Professions Code Section 6300, et. seq., which are applicable to a county having six or more Superior Court Judges, as is Santa Barbara County, provide that five of said Superior Court Judges shall act in such capacity or appoint a proxy to serve in their stead. The Chair of the Board of Supervisors is an Ex-Officio member, and the Board appoints one member of the Bar as an Attorney-at-Large Trustee. Usually the Ex-Officio member selects a member of the Bar to serve as a proxy. Representatives of the Bar from Santa Barbara and from Santa Maria traditionally are selected to fill the two appointments made by the Board of Supervisors.
Term:
The Board members serve a one (1) year term.
Duties:
Management and operation of the Santa Barbara County Law Library.
Meeting Date and Location:
The Board meets the first Monday on a monthly basis or as needed at 4:40 p.m. in the Judges’ chambers.
