The Commission was created by the Public Law 95-478. 42 US Code ยง301, et seq.
Membership:
The Commission consists of twelve Board of Directors (five nominated by: San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors, Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, City of San Luis Obispo, City of Santa Maria, and City of Santa Barbara). Six members are from the Santa Barbara County area and six are from the San Luis Obispo County area.
Term:
The Board members serve on two year terms.
Duties:
The Board is responsible for the corporate functions. It is also the policy maker and grantor of funds from the Older Americans Act and Older Californians Acts. The Board sets policy concerning programs funded and the internal operations of the Agency. The Board of Directors meets the fourth Friday of each month, except November and December.
The Board has an active Advisory Council. The Council is authorized for thirty members, fifteen from each County. Currently, the Council has 26 members- including one member of the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. One position on the Council is designated for a member of the Board of Supervisors.
The Board has four major responsibilities: senior advocate, communicator of needs and concerns of older adults, promoter of services for older adults and planner, assessor and monitor of the Area Plan.
Meeting Date and Location:
The Board meets the fourth Friday of every month, except November and December and the meetings are held in Santa Maria.
