Legal Authority:
The Fish and Game Commission was created by Board Resolution No. 75-207; amended by Resolution Nos. 83-75, 88-594 and 96-10 and 03-057.
Membership:
Twelve members as follows:
a) Six members considered qualified in matters of fish and game, nominated and sponsored by the following organizations: Santa Barbara Sport/Channel Sport Fishing Club, Winchester Canyon Gun Club, Lompoc Sportsmen's Association, Vandenberg Rod and Gun Club, Santa Ynez Valley Sportsmen's Association, Santa Ynez Valley Pistol and Bow Club and Santa Maria Valley Sportsmen's Association;
b) Five members, considered qualified in matters of fish and game, one appointed by each Supervisor from within his/her District;
c) One commercial fisherman.
Term:
Clubs - Open Supervisorial appointee's terms run simultaneously with the Supervisor's term that appointed them. Commercial Fishermen - 2 years.
Duties:
The committee shall advise the board of Supervisors on fish and game matters and make recommendations on all applications or proposals of individuals or organizations for expenditures of fish and game fine revenues, apprise the board on the current condition of fish and game within the County, recommend projects for the conservation and propagation of fish and game resources within the County, Inspect and report on progress of fish and game projects undertaken by the County, file an annual report with the Board of Supervisors summarizing the activities of the Committee for each fiscal year, and review the monthly Controller's report on fine revenues collected by Santa Barbara County courts for infractions of the State Fish and Game Code, and disbursement thereof.
Meeting Date and Location:
The Fish and Game Commission meets quarterly on the fourth Thursday of January, April, July and October, rotating throughout the County as agreed upon.
