Legal Authority:
The Developmental Disabilities Board-Area IX was created by the California Welfare and Institutions Code section 4543 et sequitur.
Membership:
The Board of directors is made up of twelve (12) voting members appointed through The Board of Supervisors office (3 members from San Luis Obispo County, 3 members from Santa Barbara County and 3 members from Ventura County) and 5 voting members appointed through the Governor’s office.
Term:
The Board members serve three (3) year terms.
Duties:
The Developmental Disabilities Board was established to ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities and their families participate in the planning, design and receipt of the services and supports they need which promote increased independence, productivity, inclusion and self-determination. Federal law requires the Council to identify methods to improve and increase services for individuals and their families, and to submit these to the federal government in the form of a State Plan. This Plan identifies priority areas for improving and increasing services and supports for individuals and their families. Plan goals, objectives and strategies are achieved through by SCDD and area board activities and Community Program Development Grants. The Plan is approved by the federal Administration on Developmental Disabilities. All board members are expected to attend all 6 general board meetings that last about 4-5 hours. It is recommended that each board member volunteer on at least one committee of the board.
Meeting Date and Location:
The Board members attend six (6) general board meetings per year within the counties of Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo.
