Legal Authority:
The Goleta Cemetery District Board of Trustees was created by the California Health & Safety Code (CH&SC), Section 9020 - “A legislative body of at least three members known as the Board of Trustees shall govern every Cemetery District”.

Membership:
Three members nominated by the 2nd District Supervisor; appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Members must reside in the Goleta Cemetery District.

Term:
The Board members serve four year terms. Members may be appointed to a term of less than 4 years at the discretion of the Board of Supervisors to facilitate staggered terms within the Cemetery Board membership.

Duties:
Trustees shall establish and oversee the implementation of policies and procedures for the operation of the Goleta Cemetery District, in accordance with CA Health & Safety Codes, and other state and federal laws. They will conduct all Board business at public meetings in accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act (CA Code, sections 54950 - 54962). Trustees will determine rules and regulations for the operation and use of the District Cemetery, and will also determine fees and charges for all District services, and products. They will determine the annual operating budget, and review and approve statement of income and expenditures monthly. Trustees will establish salary/wage levels and benefits for District employees annually. They will attend regular monthly meetings, in addition to special and emergency meetings. Trustees will submit annual Statements of Economic Interest in accordance with the Political Reform Act of 1974. Trustees are to participate in education and information seminars and training provided by various agencies, including mandatory two hours of ethics training required under CA Assembly Bill 1234, effective 2006.

Regular meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, at 4:00 PM at the District office – 44 S. San Antonio Rd, Santa Barbara, CA.
