Legal Authority:
The Safety Committee was created by The Board of Supervisors; Ordinance No. 2476 of 8/73 Section 2-52 of the County Code.

Membership:
The Committee consists of nine members.

Term:
The Committee members serve a one year term.

Duties:
The Committee was created to prevent avoidable work-related injuries and illnesses, and minimize the harm caused by those that are unavoidable, by reviewing, monitoring, promoting, and enhancing County policies, standards, procedures, programs and practices relating to safety awareness and education, accident prevention, loss control, hazard abatement, emergency preparedness, safety-related record keeping, and safety awards.

In addition, The Safety Committee shall make recommendations to The Board of Supervisors for amendments to the Safety Manual as the Safety Committee may, from time to time, deem advisable. It shall also recommend safety rules and regulations to the Board of Supervisors and to the County appointing authorities as it deems advisable to implement such Safety Manual. It shall also carry out such other duties as may from time to time be assigned to the Safety Committee by The Board of Supervisors.
