Legal Authority:
Board of Supervisors' Resolution No. 68-12, and the "Agreement for Operation of County-Wide Free Library System" (renewed yearly during Budget Hearings) between the County and the Cities of Santa Barbara, Lompoc and Santa Maria, renewable each year (amended by Board action of 10-23-90 to add County Service Area (CSA) #3 representative position).
Membership:
One member from each County District (5), 8 city nominees (Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, Lompoc, Santa Maria, Solvang, Guadalupe, Goleta and Buellton), 1 CSA 3 representative
Term:
One year term, concurrent with contract: Beginning July 1 and ending June 30 of the following year.
Duties:
Review services and operations, and make advisory recommendations to the Board of Supervisors as follows:
1. Insure adequate library services to all the inhabitants of the County of Santa Barbara;
2. Annually review the operation of the library system and this agreement;
3. Submit advisory recommendations to insure adequate service to branch libraries;
4. Assure adequate exchange of information among libraries;
5. Determine the level of service necessary to insure adequate library services for all the residents of the County;
6. Consider site locations and building programs;
7. Receive notices of reductions to the level of library services; and
8. Receive citizen input regarding library-related issues and make recommendations thereon.
Meeting Date and Location:
The Committee meets quarterly on the third Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m., at the Solvang Courtroom: 1745 Mission Drive, Suite C, Solvang, CA 93463-3605.
