Title: Consider recommendations regarding a ban of hazardous materials on State Highway 154, as follows: a) Approve and authorize the Chair and Supervisor Farr to execute a letter to the California Highway Patrol asking them to ban all hazardous materials transported on Highway 154 from milepost 8.11 to US-101 at milepost 32.28, except for local deliveries; b) Authorize a request for written concurrence from affected surrounding jurisdictions that the proposed restriction is compatible with all requirements of §31304 of the California Vehicle Code to protect the water quality of Lake Cachuma; and c) Authorize a request to the County of Santa Barbara’s state lobbyist to work with the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG) to pursue legislation to further restrict the size of trucks on State Route 154 by size and/or weight due to the narrow lanes, lack of shoulders and steep grades of the roadway.
